The quarterly meeting of the Union County Historical Society will convene at 3 PM on Sunday, September 19, 2010 in the meeting room of the Union County Museum.  As usual the rear entrance will be availble to those wishing to avoid the stairs.

P. Anthony Zeiss, Ed.D., President of Central Piedmont Community College, North Carolina will be the speaker.  Dr. Zeiss holds a doctorate in community college administration, a master's in speech and a bachelor's in speech education.  He is a professional speaker and a frequent keynoter for companies and colleges on recruiting, developing, and retaining peak performers at the workplace.

Also the author of twenty-one books, Dr. Zeiss' last volume is titled "Backcountry Fury.  A Sixteen-Year-Old Patriot in the Revolutionary War."  This story chronicles eighteen months in the life of sixteen-year-old Thomas Young during 1780-1781.  He fought in the South Carolina backcountry during the Revolutionary War and lived in Union County.  His memoirs provide the framework for this remarkable example of sacrifice, courage, and determination in the pursuit of liberty and in the founding of a new republic.  Thomas Young is buried in the old Union Cemetery east of the Monarch Community in Union County.

In remarking on his latest work, Dr. Zeiss stated:  "This is my 21st book and I wrote it to help people, especially young adults, to gain a greater appreciation of their heritage.  I an a new member of the Sons of the Americal Revolution after being inspired to join while researching for this book.  I hope to speak in period dress and in first person."

Visitors are always welcome.  For more information please call the Union County Museum at 864-429-5081.
